Basic Kayak Skills

3 Dates - July 5, July 25, August 8

Ready to get started with sea kayaking? The Basic Kayak Skills program is your entry‑point into the world of coastal paddling. Designed for beginners, this one‑day (8 hour) course focuses on foundational skills and knowledge that will allow you to confidently paddle in calm, sheltered waters.

During the program, you will:

  • Learn essential strokes and manoeuvres, including forward & reverse strokes, sweeps, pivots, draw stroke, edging, and low brace
  • Practice safety and re‑entry techniques, such as wet exits and assisted re‑entries
  • Gain familiarity with your kayak and equipment, including parts, outfitting, and transport
  • Build awareness of paddling safety, environmental stewardship, and basic navigation and risk assessment in a protected setting

No previous certification or experience is required — this course is perfect if you’ve never sea‑kayaked before and want to take your first steps in a welcoming, structured environment. Water conditions will be Class‑0: non‑challenging, calm, and sheltered.

By the end of the day, you will have the skills and confidence to paddle safely with peers on calm water — a solid foundation for future learning and paddling adventures.

2026 Dates:
