Ocean Explorer - East Coast Skills – Grand Manan
September 10-13, 2026
Refine your skills — and explore one of the most remarkable coastal environments in the Atlantic.
This Ocean Explorer Program is a 4-day ocean paddling adventure designed for paddlers looking to develop boat performance, rescue, and safety skills in dynamic waters, with a strong focus on ocean play. This program is ideal for paddlers who have completed Level-2 skills and are looking to gain more experience in dynamic ocean conditions.
Over the course of the week, participants will explore the waters surrounding Grand Manan Island, one of the crown jewels of the Bay of Fundy. This area offers breathtaking coastline, dramatic tidal currents, and opportunities to play in surf & swell on the Atlantic Ocean — all while developing confidence, control, and awareness in challenging ocean conditions.
While boat handling and skill refinement form the core of the program, paddlers will also have opportunities to strengthen leadership, navigation, rescue, safety, and decision-making skills in a real-world coastal environment. Each day blends structured instruction with guided exploration, allowing participants to apply techniques in dynamic conditions.
The program begins in the sheltered coves and bays along Grand Manan, providing a supportive environment to refine strokes, edging, bracing, and rescue techniques. As the week progresses, we move into more exposed waters, exploring tidal channels, headlands, and surf zones, gradually increasing the challenge while maintaining a focus on skill progression and safety.
Grand Manan itself is a paddling paradise. Its rugged coastline, abundant wildlife, and dramatic tides create a landscape that is both beautiful and demanding. From quiet coves to powerful tidal currents, every paddle session offers new opportunities to learn, explore, and play. The combination of scenery, conditions, and expert instruction makes this adventure a unique experience for those looking to elevate their coastal paddling skills.
Participants will leave with refined techniques, stronger confidence in rough water, and an understanding of what it takes to tackle advanced coastal paddling environments — all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Bay of Fundy and Grand Manan Island.
