Paddle Canada Level-4 Skills
October 7-12, 2026
Challenge yourself — emerge a confident coastal leader
The Paddle Canada Level-4 Skills course is for paddlers ready to push their sea-kayaking abilities to the highest national standard. This intensive, multi-day program challenges participants to confidently navigate remote, exposed coastlines under demanding conditions — testing skills, leadership, and group decision-making in a real expedition context.
Over the first days, we’ll use a basecamp (group house or lodge) to prepare and seek out dynamic paddling environments — surf, swell, currents, and complex coastal terrain. From there, the program transitions into a full coastal expedition: traveling along exposed open coast in rough-water conditions, managing real-world challenges as a peer-group team.
What you’ll refine — and what you’ll master
In this course, you’ll build on everything from earlier levels and bring it all together:
- Advanced paddling & sea-conditions skills
- Safety, rescue & self-reliance
- Navigation, seamanship & environmental awareness
- Leadership, teamwork & group dynamics
Who this course is for
This is the highest level in the Paddle Canada sea-kayak program. It is intended for experienced paddlers who have already mastered Level-3 — including strong rolling, multi-day trip experience, and competence in rough water.
You should be ready and willing to engage in a rigorous expedition-style environment, with a willingness to problem-solve, adapt, and support a group of peers through challenging coastal conditions — surf, swell, currents, wind, and sometimes remote access.
What makes this course unique
Unlike lower-level training, Level-4 isn’t about introducing skills — it’s about integration. It’s where you take everything you’ve learned — strokes, rescues, decision-making, navigation, planning — and apply them under pressure, in real ocean conditions. It’s about testing your systems, learning from scenarios, and building resilience both individually and as a team.
This course doesn’t just prepare you for tougher waters — it transforms you into a confident, capable coastal expedition paddler, ready to travel, explore, and lead in some of the most demanding marine environments Canada has to offer.
